Phaedra D. Pokemon
Pokemon has been around for 20 years now, and is still Nintendo's 2nd most popular game. There have been sequels, remakes, and even hacks. Some people have had Supernatural experiences with Pokemon. There are currently 718 Pokemon including the ones that were introuduced in the new game. Some people have been playing since the 90's, and Pokemon will always be something sentimental to them. Pokemon is something that has been put into everyday society and everyday lives, and stayed.
Pokemon games have many variations, they have cards games, figurine games, DS games, and Wii games. Many Pokemon fans collect the cards and don’t even use them, their most popular use is probably being a collectable. Figurines are the same, many just put them on display rather than playing with them. As or the Pokemon cartridges, most use them for actual gameplay, but some collect them and sell them.
There are currently 6 generations of Pokemon. The first generation was Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, and they had 150 Pokemon. Those games were for the Gameboy. A few years after, Fire Red and Leaf Green were released for the DS and Gameboy Color, they were technically the same games but remade. Heart Gold and Soul Silver was also remade or the DS, it was originally for the Gameboy Color, but the DS was the biggest game console at the time. When they started releasing new games, they were only for the DS. The next 4 generations were only for DS consoles.
Just recently a new DS came out called the “3DS”. It’s basically the same as an original DS, it just has a 3D option. The new Pokemon game “X and Y” came ot only for the 3DS and 2DS. They made the 2DS so people who didn’t want a 3DS could play 3DS games. Usually Pokemon games are released in Japan first because the biggest Nintendo Company is in Japan, but X and Y was a World Wide Release. This new game was probably the most sold Pokemon game in years. Since all of the games had the same format, the new changes excited people.
Gym Leader’s in Pokemon are basically bosses. (They call it a “Gym” because you can train your Pokemon by battling them). After you beat all of the Gym Leader’s in a game, you move on to the Elite Four. The Elite Four consists of four bosses, and one Champion at the end. Each Elite four member has a different type of Pokemon, and each has a team of five Pokemon of the same type, and the Champion has six. It wasn’t until Black and White that they started having only four Pokemon on each team in the Elite Four. X and Y was the same, but X and Y didn’t really make many new Pokemon, so some of their team had Pokemon from other Generations in them. Throughout the Generations, people have put so much time into befriending their Pokemon and having fun with battle, and to them, it’s not just about winning.
Some people have a favorite Generation, and some like all of them. My favorite is 3rd Gen because they have a lot of my favorite Pokemon and the story is super great. There isn’t really a specific definition of Pokemon, it kind of varies depending on how you think of it. For me, it’s about friendship, and how you can create bonds with these creatures and it can help you in any fight. Pokemon is very special to me, it may just be a video game, but soon we’ll invent 4th dimension games and it won’t just be little sprites anymore. We could have them as pets. That’s what I want, I want to have a real bond with my Pokemon, because Pokemon is something that will always be important to me.
