PhotographyDEFINITION ESSAY

There are a lot of common interests in the world. Dance, music, writing are just a few of millions in the world, but there's one that captivates thousands of people throughout the world, and that is photography. Many people might disagree, but in my opinion it is amazing.
Photography is defined as "painting with light." (gizmodo.com). Photography is a more modern art genre. I feel it is just as tricky as painting a picture. However, that doesn't mean photography is a difficult thing to learn. It can be easy as one, two, three. Some people learn photography and they do well, others have a natural ability at taking photos. Patience plays a role in photography. It can take up to days, even weeks just to take just the right photo. It isn't just about the camera though. It's also about the time and effort. It takes hours of prep, editing, and much more!
Photography is often discredited because of photo shop. Some professional photographers use photo shop to make their photo's better. That doesn't necessarily mean it is cheating when you edit photos. It does take talent, and effort. But, photo shop does improve what the lens cannot. “Photo editing is an art in itself.” (gizmodo.com) I think photo shop plays a big role in photography.
Technique is another big part of photography. Rule of thirds, shutter speed, and lighting. Those are a few techniques that are pretty common to almost every photographer. Rule of thirds is when you have chart, think of something similar to a tic tac toe chart. If you're picture is of a person, you want they're eyes in the top middle, nose in the middle, and lips on the bottom middle. Shutter speed. Shutter speed is a really helpful tool if you like taking pictures of things in motion. For example, a highway at night when cars have their headlights on, or a motorcycle speeding past. Lighting. Lighting is a popular technique that many people use. Golden lighting is a particular type of lighting that creates a soft look and feeling. Example, a picture of the sunset, or someone facing the sun.
Photography is not just snapping a picture. It also can capture a moment in time, and can impact a person's life forever. Africa for example. Many photographers take pictures of the poor towns in Africa, and share it through magazines, television, billboards, everywhere so people can donate, help, and support the people there in Africa. That's one way it impacts the lives of other people. It also captures that moment in time that you want to remember. Graduation, the day your baby sister was born, and so much more! Photography really does has more meaning than meets the eye.
Photography is a fascinating form of art, and is more meaningful than what I thought it is. Photography can inspire people to do great things, no matter how big, or how small. Nevertheless, photography is amazing, and a hobby that millions of people love, and enjoy.
