After I rode them I took them back to trailer and gave them to Bert. I walked back to the ring to learn my next course. When I returned Bert already had the two ponies put away and Lebu was clean, saddled and bridled! Not only that but the ponies’ tack was shining. As I got on, Bert followed me so he could hold Lebu while I walked the course. The first few people we passed did not notice Bert, but after a while all eyes were on Bert and me.
We kept walking, and when we got to the arena I handed him Lebu. “Don’t worry, I will explain to them later,” I told him.
“I know, they just look at me because I’m better than they are.” As he said this, a smile came over his computer-screen face.
After I showed Lebu the questions poured in. “What's that little thing that follows you around?”
“He’s my groom,” I replied to everyone at once. They stared after us as we walked away. No one ever got used to Bert holding a horse or setting jumps. After a few more crazy days we packed up and went home. When we got back to the barn everyone was more comfortable. Bert knew everyone and no one stared at him. Bert is so helpful we could not do with out him. I guess people at the shows will have to get used to him.
