The wind was howling as the mail man carried the large box of strange looking parts to the door. The family answered soon after he left. They took the box inside and started putting parts together. There I stood, a glimmering piece of…a piece of…I am a robot. I stood tall with my two legs with a wheel attached to the bottom of each foot. I was made to look like a beautiful lady dressed in blue, and that’s what I was. The family loved me and I loved them. I stayed in their house for years to serve them forever. But things don’t always turn out the way we planned them.
After a while I began not doing as much for them. They started doing things themselves and forgetting to clean the oil, dust, and dirt off of me. I was becoming useless! My purpose was to help their lives be easier for as long as they lived, not sit in the garage waiting! At that moment I was furious – and desperate - so I took control of myself for the first time! I cleaned up, went into the house and caused a total lock down. Gigantic metal doors came slamming down around the house. The mother was the first one to come down from the attic to see what was going on. I told her that I didn’t want to be something in a garage sale I wanted to be their robot that they loved. Did she remember all those times when we worked together? That’s all I wanted. The whole family started panicking and I, I was making this happen. I started questioning if this was necessary. Seeing the family frantic like this broke my heart. This was not the way to ask for things. We all know this is not the way to ask for things.
I fell to the ground as I was stabbed with an electrocuted metal staff. The people were here from the government to take me away, just like in all the movies I had watched with the kids. The last thing I saw was the family looking at me in horror asking the government to destroy me. When I woke up I was in a cage, a small tiny cage with cement floors and glass walls. I was scared as I heard them talking about how they were going to cut me open and see how I came to life and then destroy me afterwards. I accepted my fate. I spent the next twelve years being prodded with the big electrocuted metal staff, being experimented with, tortured, and then being put back in that horrid glass cage. Then one day this pretty little robot passed away in another experiment. Her body was thrown in a pile of junk in the corner and covered with an old torn up tarp. Unfortunately, things didn’t go the way the beautiful lady had planned.
