“Hey! Wait for me, Carly!” hollered twelve year old Violet. Violet’s curly brown hair was in two braids and she was wearing a purple T-shirt, Levi jeans, and brown cowgirl boots.
“Hurry up, Vi!” said 14 year old Carly. Carly took her fun days a little more girly, her blonde hair was in a French braid and she was in a blue T-shirt, pre-ripped blue jeans, and red sneakers. A thick, pink jacket was tied around her waist.
“Ready, Carly?”
“Yea! Where’s your backpack?”
“On my back. It’s got all we need, a tent, food, a grill, rope, and clothes. You’ve got yours, right?”
“Of course I do! Let’s go! Wait! Do we have bug spray?”
“Yes! Come on!” Violet said as she pulled Carly away from their houses and into the woods. The two had planned this trip for weeks. They were going to climb a mountain that people thought they had seen a UFO land on years ago.
“Aren’t you cold, Vi?” asked Carly putting on her jacket.
“No, I’m not afraid of my arms getting scratched by trees like you are and I’m not afraid of a cold and dark wood. The girls walked at a slow pace and took in all the sights. They stopped by a small waterfall for lunch.
“Hey, Carly?”
“What?” Carly asked through a mouth full of food.
“If you don’t have access to the Internet, how are we going to know where we are?”
“Oh the app I have for GPS doesn’t need access. Would you like to pull out the map we found and my phone to see where we are?”
“Yea, then we’ll move on.”
“Okay, so right now we’re here.” Carly said showing Violet.
“Oh, that’s the Shimmering Rainbow Waterfall according to the map.”
“Let’s move on then, the bugs are getting thicker.” The girls walked on until they found a great spot for dinner and to sleep. They once again looked at the map and the GPS and found they were almost to the mountain and at a spot called Death Drop Falls.
The next morning the girls got up, got ready, and had breakfast. Then continued their walk to UFO Mountain. When they arrived there they decided that the best way to get to the top was to go up as far as they could without the ropes and then use the ropes. After walking a little ways up the green slope Violet said, “Hey, Carly, I was just thinking and because you’re older and taller you should go first.”
“No, you’re more likely to get yourself out of a hole than I am.”
“No, I could walk right over a soft spot and not fall.”
“Fine! I’ll go first.” The girls walked almost all the way to the top of the mountain when they came to a cliff.
“Do you think this is where the UFO landed Carly?”
“Could be, I guess we’ll find out.” Carly said as she pulled out her phone and Violet pulled out the map.
“This map says that there should be some sort of crossing and the bottom. I think it’s time to use the ropes,” Violet said. The girls got out the ropes and started down the cliff. Halfway down they found a cavity in the mountain and sat down.
“Okay I can see the bottom. I think that we’re only about 200 feet away,” Carly said.
“Let’s go then we’re almost there!” When they got to the bottom they found an old bridge across the chasm and concluded that either aliens had made it or humans had. They were about to cross the bridge when Violet screamed.
“Violet! What’s wrong?” Carly asked as she wheeled around and screamed at the sight. Violet was standing in front of an old, rusty looking piece of metal.
“Carly, I can’t move I’m so scared,” Violet said as Carly came over.
“How’d you find this, Vi,” Carly asked.
“I was just walking around exploring things and I came to this and I looked at it and I thought I saw it look at me.”
“Impossible.” Carly said and turned away to examine the bridge some more, but turned around at the sound of buzzing. Violet and Carly both screamed like they were being attacked by a wild animal. The robot’s yellow eyes had just come to life.
“Hello girls, I’ve been waiting a long time for you. I’m Sandy and you two are?” asked Sandy the robot.
“I’m Carly.”
“I’m Violet.”
The robot learned all about the girls while the two oiled her hinges and fixed her up. The girls in turn heard about Sandy around the campfire that night.
“You want to know about me? Alright, well you know I’m Sandy and amazingly enough I’m 173 and I’ve been here ever since I was 13. Well, I didn’t even mean to come here I was just on a field trip with my class and we were on board the Journey 2000. While we were on board the ship, it was needed and the crew was on before we could do anything but run. The rest of my class got out but I was last and I was almost to the door when it slammed shut. Lucky for me my dad was on call so I was with him. One night the ship went out of control and we landed here, everyone survived and I was left again when they recovered the ship. My dad’s best friend was very mean to me, he pulled and tweaked my cords and left me with nothing. Now I’m here with you two and I’m hoping to be accepted into your world,” Sandy said.
“Wow,” Violet and Carly said at the same time.
“Do you think you could show us what’s over there?” questioned Violet.
“Oh no. I don’t know what’s over there, all I know is that I wasn’t ever allowed over there as a girl,” mourned Sandy.
“Well you’re not a girl anymore Sandy! But what I want to know is who built that bridge?” Carly asked.
“Oh, my kind did. I don’t think it’s safe but we’ll try.”
Sandy and the girls crossed the bridge the next day, found plenty of things, but left them all there. They hid the door with dirt and grass and took the bridge down. Sandy flew them home and was well accepted and Sandy, the girls, and everyone else lived happily ever after.
