There once was a daycare called The Playhouse where kids came to play all day long. The Playhouse was always full of fun new toys, but the five year old's room had the best toys. There were crying baby dolls, blasters with flashing lights, dinosaurs that roared, and furry animals that made sounds when tickled. But in the corner there was one toy that didn't quite fit in with the rest. It was an old, little, yellow robot with painted gears and gages. He couldn't flash or make noises like the other toys, all he could do was walk when wound up with his key on his back. He felt sad and alone watching the others toys being played with and loved.
One day after The Playhouse was closed, the little robot started to dream. He was in The Playhouse when all of a sudden he started to grow till he was the size of a grown man. All the children stopped and stared at what had happened to this old robot. He has big instead of small, His gears and gages disappeared, and he could walk without being wound up. The children all started to love the robot and play with him. Then the robot started to think,
"Is this all that I can do? Walk around children all day?" So he decided to leave The Playhouse and find out what he could do. When he got outside he saw an oak tree and decided to climb it.
"I can climb!" he said as he climbed. When he got to the top he saw someone take a lady's purse.
"Help, Help," shouted the lady. All of a sudden the branch the robot was on snapped and he landed on top of the purse snatcher. The robot got up and realized that he had landed on the purse snatcher. As the police came and took the man away they thanked the robot for his good deed. Later that day the mayor walked up to the robot and rewarded him with a key to the city for stopping the purse snatcher. Everyone cheered for the robot and he felt loved. Then as he was walking down the street a villain ran out of the bank with a bag full of money and a ray that would freeze a man in place.
"Stop him robot!" the people shouted.
"I can't stop him," said the robot, "he has a weapon and if I fight him I could break." As the people pleaded with the robot, he became scared.
"Why did I leave The Playhouse?" he said, "I belong there and it is safer for a robot like me." I want to be a toy again!" shouted the robot, "I want to be a toy again!"
The robot woke up from his dream and found him self back in The Playhouse. As he looked around he was happy to find himself small and with painted gears and gages. Then the daycare opened and the kids all ran to their favorite toys. "I still wish I was played with," the robot said to himself. Then the robot saw a little boy that didn't have a toy to play with. The boy saw the robot, picked it up and looked at it. The boy wound up the robot and started to play with it. The robot became the little boy's favorite toy and he played with him everyday.
"It feels good to be played with," said the robot.
The End.
