"Ah!" Sam exclaimed as he tripped down the stairs. He looked helplessly at the box he was carrying, and its contents that were now strewn all over the floor. Sam got onto his feet and started to pick up the scattered pieces of cloth, feathers, and buttons that he had spilled. Bang! Bang! Suddenly came a noise from the coat closet. Sam cautiosly put down what he was doing and slowly made his way to the closet.
Sam cautiously opened the door to find a metal box. It was no larger than his waist, but a lot denser. He poked it with his finger, and it started to shake. Sam backed up until his back was touching the wall. He watched in astonishment as the box popped out an oval head, and then some thick arms, and lastly, some tall, lean legs. 'The Box' the name that Sam had just decided to call the robot, looked over at Sam and slowly made his way to him. He placed his arm out, as if he wanted Sam to shake it. Sam slowly put his hand up and shook the robot's hand. The robot bowed, and then a glow came from his stomach. Letters appeared, 'Hello, my name is Gadget. I am a robot, as well as your birthday present. I don't think you were supposed to find me for another few weeks.' Sam looked guiltly at his shoes. 'It's alright, accidents happen. I am Gadget, your now, faithful servant and friend." Gadget then bowed once again. Sam looked at the robot in amazement. He thought of all of the possibilities. No more cleaning his room, no homework, and someone to help him if he falls, like what happened earlier. Sam smiled gently and took the robot by his hand, and led him towards his homework.
Life for Sam has gotten a lot easier for him since he found Gadget. Gadget helped him with his homework, his room was always spotless, and he knew he always would have someone there for him. Although his parents were a little angry that he had found his birthday present too soon, they were happy that Sam was happy. Sam knew that he had found his life long friend.
